Jay Wehnert is a Houston based writer, curator and collector. His new book, Outsider Art in Texas: Lone Stars, is the product of his explorations into the nature of what is now referred to as outsider art and its origins in Jean Dubuffet’s concepts of art brut. In it, he examines the lives and art of eleven extraordinary Texas artists who exemplify an essential isolation at the core their creativity. Jay Wehnert will share their art and stories with a special focus on three Houstonians. Mr. Wehnert will sign copies of his book Outsider Art in Texas: Lone Stars, following his presentation.

VAA critiques are opportunities for artists to share their work with other artists. These are peer critiques in which everyone is invited to show work and discuss the work of others. You don’t have to bring work in order to show up.
Work can be in any medium and artists may bring 1 to 10 pieces. Participants will be allowed as much time as possible depending on how many people are showing work. Artists are encouraged to bring current pieces/projects they wish to discuss with others and get feedback on concept, technique, presentation, etc.
Drinks and snacks will be provided (feel free to bring and share, too).
VAA members and non-members are welcome to come. There is no fee.
Don't forget these events are now at Archway Gallery. Thanks to Archway for hosting!
