Stephen Patrick Degan was born & raised in Houston, Texas. Stephen’s lifelong appreciation of art together with his natural curiosity has inspired his love for travel to explore the beauty in nature, architecture and fine art. Today, after a successful career in the financial services industry, his life and travel experiences and the countless images captured with his very talented photographer’s eye are inspiration for his paintings.
Stephen has worked in various media, but his main focus is painting in oil to capture a wide variety of subjects. He studied oil painting with Gary Hernandez at the Gary J. Hernandez School of Fine Art in Houston for five years. All Stephen’s work can be viewed online at www.deganArt.com.
“I was the middle child of five, with a brother and sister older and younger. Catholic schools taught me discipline early and the public schools showed me mischief later. I had a lot of jobs that showed me what I did not want to do. I kept working hard and veered into financial sales and did pretty well. Someone wrote in my high school year book that I would be a painter. Later, rather than sooner, that turned out to be true.”
