Contemporary artist, Margaret Colvin has explored the many facets of abstraction; employing mixed media to create paintings and collages with a sense of style and presentation all her own. Various components are used in her work: acrylics, oil pastels, molding paste, sand, and pumice gel which are applied to range of mediums: canvas, wood, paper and Plexiglas. Not conforming to one medium allows her to expand, explore and experiment; continually refining her technique.
Her mixed media collages are meant to be intimate and thought provoking. One often finds a humorous or unexpected element within each piece. Margaret enjoys collecting and working with a variety of materials – worn papers, painting fragments, string, candy wrappers, netting – anything to create a tactile surface.
Through the years, Margaret has completed commission pieces throughout Texas and Colorado and her work is in numerous private and corporate collections locally.
